Appeal from the Juvenile Court for Williamson County
No. 27193 Sharon Guffee, Judge
No. M2015 - 02461 - COA - R3 - PT – Filed August 5, 2016
This case involves the termination of a mother‟s parental rights to her son. The trial court ( aka JUDGE SHARON GUFFEE) found that two statutory grounds for termination were proven by clear and convincing evidence – abandonment by willful failure to support and persistence of conditions. The trial court also concluded that termination of the mother‟s parental rights was in the child‟s best interest.
"We (appellate court) conclude that there is not clear and convincing evidence of either ground for termination relied upon by the trial court . Therefore , we reverse the termination of the mother‟s parental rights.
Since many allegations have come out publicly against Judge Sharon Guffee, there have been more people coming forward to tell their own stories of abuse in Guffee's courtroom. They will be added here soon. Check back for updates.
It is noteworthy to point out that Judge Sharon Guffee was quick to conclude contempt of court on Mrs. Jackson when she had no reason whatsoever except from what the guardian ad litem stated to her. This evidences Judge Guffee's reliance on guardian ad items, CPS (Child Protective Services), and others close to her rather than listen to the people in front of her.
As stated on this link here, "The other incident of contempt was the one that took place while the parties were leaving the courtroom. The guardian ad litem brought to the court’s attention that Mrs. Jackson was “giving them a look and holding her hands up to her.” The guardian ad litem added, “she hasn’t learned a thing.”
From the record, there was nothing to indicate that the judge saw this conduct. It merely took place in the same room. Since there was no notice or hearing, the Court of Appeals reversed this conviction and sentence.
